CUNYAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Granville Gittens has been named the CUNYAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of 12/1-12/7. Over two games this week, the veteran averaged a double-double with 14.5 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game. He narrowly missed a double-double in a 63-47 victory over Stevens Tech with 13 points and 9 rebounds. The Brooklyn native followed that up during a 73-67 conference victory over Hunter in which he notched 16 points and snagged 11 rebounds.

Chimaechi Ekekeugbor has been named the CUNYAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week of 12/1-12/7. With his fourth consecutive award, the rookie continues to sweep the weekly honor. The standout began his week with 15 points and seven boards during a 63-47 win over Stevens Tech. In that game, the Ducks cut the lead seven on a driving layup with 15:38 left, but the New Jersey native hit a three that started an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach. He followed that up with 16 points and 8 rebounds against conference rival Hunter to help the Bearcats win 73-67.

Lehman Lighting (5-2 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC)

The Lightning came back from a ten-point second half deficit to knock off host Medgar Evers, 81-79, in Lehman's only game of the week. The Lightning are now 2-0 in CUNY Athletic Conference play and 5-2 overall. Lehman will have another conference road game on Tuesday, against defending CUNYAC Tournament Champion York College, at 8:00 p.m.

John Jay Bloodhounds (1-6 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC)
Last Week (0-2 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC)

The Bloodhounds went 0-2 for the week. John Jay fell to USMMA on Monday, 76-54, and then to Brooklyn College, 83-74. The Bloodhounds have two CUNYAC games this week against CCNY and CSI.

Staten Island Dolphins (3-2 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC)

CSI was idle last week. This week, they face Baruch College on Tuesday at the Sports & Recreation Center, followed by a road test on Thursday against John Jay.

Baruch Bearcats (4-1 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC)
Last Week (2-0 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC)

Baruch went 2-0 for the week, improving their overall record to 4-1 on the young season. Bearcats picked up an important 73-67 victory over conference rival Hunter College. The men's basketball team will go on the road on Tuesday, December 9, for a 7:30 pm CUNYAC contest at the College of Staten Island Dolphins.

CCNY Beavers (3-4 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC)
Last Week (0-1 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC)

CCNY gave the defending champs everything they had on Friday night, pulling to within three on a pair of free throws from Khalil Hamer with 6:47 remaining. Senior Anthony Lewis matched his season-high, scoring 26 points. Lewis also pulled down 11 rebounds and collected two steals and a block. Sophomore Khalil Hamer finished with 19 points, shooting ten-of-ten from the line with five rebounds and two steals. Junior Saleh Nasser contributed six points with five rebounds while freshman Salvatore Palazzolo came up with six points and six boards. Sophomore Francis Kilinksi hit two threes off the bench for six points.

Medgar Evers Cougars (1-6 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC)

The Men's Basketball team went 0-2 for the week. On Wednesday December 5, 2014, the Lehman College Lightning defeated the Cougars 81-79. Then on Sunday December. 7, 2014, the Ramapo College Roadrunners defeated the Cougars 89-74.

York Cardinals (5-2 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC)
Last Week (2-0 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC)

York picked up two road victories last week to improve its record to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in CUNYAC play. The Cardinals had their best two shooting performances to date this season, shooting over 50 percent in each game.

After opening the season with 7 road contests, York finally has its home opener this week on Tuesday against Lehman, before heading back on the road Friday to take on Baruch.

Brooklyn Bulldogs (8-1 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC)
Last Week (3-0 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC)

The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team posted a perfect 3-0 record this past week with wins over Old Westbury, Maritime and John Jay, to extend its current winning streak to eight. The Bulldogs will close out the 2014 portion of its 2014-2015 schedule this week with games at Medgar Evers (12/9) and at home against Lehman (12/12).

Hunter Hawks (2-3 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC)
Last Week (0-2 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC)

The Hunter Hawks went 0-2 last week, dropping two close match ups to Manhattanville College and Baruch College by a combined nine points. Brian Kruger and Lester Anim were the leading scorers for the Hawks with Kruger netting 19 against Manhattanville and 15 against Baruch. Anim scored 16 and 14 respectively. This week the Hawks take on Rutgers-Newark on Monday and CCNY on Friday.
