After earning CUNYAC weekly honors, the East Coast Athletic Conference has also awarded York’s Guard Omar St. John the ECAC Player of the Week Award and Baruch’s Forward Chimaechi Ekekeugbor the ECAC Rookie of the Week Award for the week ending November 30, 2014.

York’s guard, Omar St. John has been named the ECAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending November 30th. In the same week, St. John was named the CUNYAC Player of the Week as well. The Cardinals won two of their three games last week to give the team an overall record of 3-2. St. John lead the way averaging just under 32 points in those three games with a shooting percentage of 61%. The York senior also totalled 13 assists and 7 steals in the same span. In the first game of the week, York matched up against Medgar Evers and St. John made his presence felt. The guard scored 46 points, going 5 for 9 from 3-Point range. This was good enough to tie a York school record for most points in a single game during the 85-80 win over their CUNYAC opponent. The Jamaica, Queens native followed up this performance with another strong showing against the University of Rochester in which St. John scored 36 points and racked up 10 rebounds. York went on to win the game by a final score of 80-76. Omar St. John and the York Cardinals look to improve on their record this week with games against winless Purchase College and CUNYAC opponent CCNY with a current overall record of 3 wins and 3 losses.

Chimaechi Ekekeugbor of Baruch College has been named the ECAC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 30th. For the same week, and the two weeks prior, Ekekeugbor has also been named the CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week. In his first three games ever with the Baruch Bearcats, the 6’5” forward accumulated a total of 24 rebounds and 47 points, averaging just over 15 points per game. The rookie shot 63.6% in his first three games helping the Bearcats notch their first two wins of the season. On November 29th, as Baruch took on opponent FDU-Florham, Ekekeugbor recorded his first career double-double. The forward scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as he went 8 of 13 from the field. The Bearcats went on to win the game by a final score of 69-48. The Baruch Bearcats have two more games this week against Stevens Institute of Technology with a record of 3-3 and CUNYAC opponent Hunter College and their overall record of 3-4.
