Edwin Marrero gets his first CUNYAC/MCU Baseball Player of the Week nod after batting .563 for the week with 11 RBI’s, 2 homeruns and 5 runs scored. Marrero started off the week scoring 2 homeruns in the 14-5 victory over SUNY Maritime (March 14). The catcher went 4 for 6 with 6 RBI’s in the game. Much of Marrero’s astounding week came in the double header against NYU Poly where he led the Lightning to two game win streak. The junior from Brooklyn went 3 for 7 with 5 RBI’s and three runs scored.

BRAYLIN PEREZ, John Jay
Pitcher/Sophomore/Santo Domingo, DR/Manhattan Bridges
Braylin Perez earns his first pitcher of the week honor after pitching a complete game shutout over Yeshiva, giving the Bloodhounds their first victory in the doubleheader. The sophomore dominated Yeshiva’s lineup throughout the game on the way to the 7-0 shutout. The superb outing included an outstanding 13 strikeouts against no walks, with Yeshiva’s offense only able to manage to get two hits.
CUNYAC/MCU Baseball Rookie of the Week
PAUL PEREZ, Baruch
Pitcher/Freshman/Middle Village, NY/St. John Prep
Paul Perez is named rookie of the week after his crucial performance in Baruch’s win over SUNY Ferdonia (March 12). Over the seven innings he pitched for the Bearcats, Perez only allowed six of Ferdonia’s offense to reach the bases. The freshman kept Ferdonia at bay by striking out seven of their batters and only allowing two walks.
