NEW YORK - The City College of New York Department of Athletics and Recreation is proud to announce the hiring of
Carlo Edra as the new Head Coach of the CCNY Men's Volleyball program.
Edra arrives at The City College with an accomplished track record and a reputation for building championship-caliber programs. Across 11 seasons as a collegiate head coach, he compiled a career record of 186-125 (.598) while leading teams to multiple conference championships and postseason appearances, including two NCAA Tournament berths, six ECAC Tournament appearances, five Skyline Tournament berths, and numerous championship runs.
"I want to thank
Duane Bailey for giving me the opportunity to lead the City College program and continue my career in the CUNYAC, said Edra. "From the moment I stepped into Nat Holman Gymnasium and spent time with Mr. Bailey, his vision for the athletic department and facility made this decision an easy one."
Most recently, Edra authored another historic season in 2026, leading his program to a CUNYAC Regular Season Championship, a CUNYAC Tournament Championship, and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. For his efforts, he was named the 2026 CUNYAC Coach of the Year, adding to an already decorated coaching résumé.
The all-time winningest coach in program history at New Jersey City University, Edra returns to New York after a highly successful tenure guiding the Gothic Knights. During his leadership, NJCU experienced a period of sustained success that included conference titles, postseason runs, and numerous program milestones.
"We are thrilled to welcome Carlo to the City College family," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation
Duane Bailey. "Carlo has demonstrated an exceptional ability to develop student-athletes, build winning cultures, and elevate programs on and off the court. His passion, leadership, and vision for men's volleyball make him the ideal person to lead our program into its next chapter."
Edra's coaching résumé includes an impressive list of honors. He earned Skyline Coach of the Year recognition three times (2021, 2022, 2024), NJAC Coach of the Year honors three times, and now adds 2026 CUNYAC Coach of the Year to his accomplishments. Under his leadership, student-athletes have earned an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, multiple AVCA All-Region honors, conference Players of the Year, Defensive Players of the Year, Rookie of the Year recipients, and more than 45 All-Conference selections.
His teams have also excelled in the classroom, producing Academic All-Conference honorees and numerous conference academic honor roll selections, reflecting his commitment to developing the complete student-athlete experience.
"CCNY has a rich history and tremendous potential, and I'm excited to work with this group of student-athletes as we build a culture rooted in brotherhood, accountability, and championship standards. I'm eager to get to work and help take this program to new heights, and I hope the entire CCNY community shares that excitement."
Edra first began his collegiate coaching career in 2007 and later returned to lead his alma mater for a second stint beginning in 2019. He currently also coaches for the GEVA Regional Team Development Program and was the head coach and general manager of Team Freedom in the National Volleyball Association professional league from 2019-2025. Throughout his career, he has consistently developed competitive teams while emphasizing student-athlete success on and off the court.
