NEW YORK - The 2026 CUNY Athletic Conference men's volleyball All-Conference teams and major awards were announced Thursday afternoon. The All-Conference teams and major awards are voted upon by the league's head coaches.
Hunter junior
Ahmed Mohamed was tabbed as the league's Player of the Year, while Baruch freshman
Benjamin Nirenstein was voted the Rookie of the Year. John Jay graduate student
Logan Ramos earned Libero of the Year, while New Jersey City head coach
Carlo Edra was voted the Coach of the Year by his peers. Lehman's
Oscar Calderon was named the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award.
Player of the Year: Ahmed Mohamed, Hunter
Mohamed, a five-time CUNYAC Player of the Week, ranked among the conference leaders in several categories as he led the Hawks to the No. 2 seed in the conference championship. He currently leads the conference in kills (339), kills per set (4.24), points per set (5.21) and service aces (66) while he is tied for the conference lead in service aces per set (0.83). Nationally, Mohamed is tops in service aces per set, third in points per set and fifth in kills per set. Mohamed also ranks sixth in the league in hitting percentage (.297) and digs per set (1.98). He is the third Hawk to earn Player of the Year in the past four seasons, joining Matisse-Lee Maarek (2023) and Cooper Moran (2024).
Rookie of the Year: Benjamin Nirenstein, Baruch
Nirenstein, who earned Rookie of the Week honors five times this season, ranked second on the Bearcats with 180 kills on a team-high .313 hitting percentage. He also racked up 85 digs, 25 service aces and 15 blocks. Nirenstein ranks fourth in the conference in kills per set (3.21) and hitting percentage. He is the first Baruch rookie of the year since Scott Standring in 2013.
Libero of the Year: Logan Ramos, John Jay
Ramos paced the conference in total digs with 223 while his 2.56 digs per set rank second overall. On serve receive, Ramos committed just 16 errors on 437 reception attempts, good for a .963 reception percentage. He is the second Bloodhound to capture Libero of the Year in three seasons after Micah Rossman won in 2024.
Coach of the Year: Carlo Edra, New Jersey City
Edra, in his seventh season of his second stint at the helm of the Gothic Knights, has guided NJCU to an 18-9 overall record to date and the CUNYAC regular season championship with an 8-0 conference mark. New Jersey City also has a conference-high four players named All-Conference, including three selected to the First Team.
