NEW YORK - The Baruch College Athletic Department is proud to announce the appointment of Tammer Farid as the new Head Coach for the Men's Basketball Team.
The Baruch College Alum takes over the head coaching position after previously serving as the Associate Head Coach.
"We are thrilled to welcome back Tammer Farid as the new Head Coach of Baruch College Men's Basketball Team," said Heather MacCulloch, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "As both an alumnus and former associate head coach, he brings deep understanding of our program's values and powerful vision for its future. His passion, leadership, and commitment to student-athlete success make him the ideal person to lead the next chapter of Bearcats basketball."
Farid graduated from Baruch College in 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing.
He spent his four undergraduate years playing the guard position (2007-2011) where he scored a total of 1,322 points making him 10th on the team's all-time scoring list. He was a part of the 2008-09 roster that received an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Farid was also on the 2009-10 team that won the ECAC Metro Postseason Regional DIII Championship.
"When I think of Baruch, I think of opportunity. And I am grateful for this school, the coaches and mentors who came before me, the players who I've coached and my family who all have made this opportunity possible," Farid commented. "I am excited to take this program to the next level and welcome all to come join us for the ride."
Farid was on the 2010-11 team that finished 13-0 in the regular season against teams in the CUNY Athletic Conference. That same season, Farid led the team in points averaging 13.0 per game.
He has spent seven seasons as assistant head coach, then four as an Associate Head Coach (2018-2022 & 2023-24). In total, Farid has made it to the NCAA Tournament with the Bearcats five times: once as a player (2008-09), once as an assistant (2014-15), and three as associate head coach. During his seasons as an associate head coach and a member of John Alesi's coaching staff, the Bearcats accumulated an 80-34 winning record as well as three CUNYAC Championship titles.
The Farid family now has two head coaches in NCAA Division III Basketball, with Tammer now in the big chair at Baruch and his brother Waleed recently being appointed as the Head Coach of the New York University men's basketball team.
