Baruch Holds off Late CCNY Rally for 2025 CUNYAC Baseball Championship

- No. 3 seed Baruch built an 11-3 lead and held off a late rally by top-seeded CCNY to take Game 3 in the 2025 CUNYAC Baseball Championship and win its first CUNYAC baseball title since 2022 with a 14-10 win Sunday afternoon at Reinhart Baseball Field on the campus of SUNY Maritime.

The Bearcats (14-19) captured the sixth championship in program history.  Baruch won the title after spotting the Beavers (13-14) a 1-0 series lead with a 5-3 Game 1 win Saturday.  Baruch won Saturday's second game 9-4.

Baruch's Roy Longazro was voted Championship MVP after batting 8-for-18 (.444), with 10 RBI, seven runs, four doubles, and two home runs, in an outstanding performance throughout the tournament's four games.

Baruch scored in each of the game's first six innings, scoring once in the first, three times in the second, twice in the third, one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.  CCNY plated single runs in the first, second and fifth innings, before exploding for six runs in the seventh to close within 11-8.  Kevin Budzinski delievered a three-run double in the seventh for the Beavers.

Joseph Cocozza, who hit for the cycle Sunday, had a solo home run in the fourth for Baruch, while Longarzo hit a solo shot in the sixth.  CCNY pulled within 11-10 in the eighth on a Budzinski RBI single.

Baruch gave itself some breathing room with three runs in the top of the ninth as Cocozza, Peter Marino and Nicholas Benedetto each drove in runs.  Bearcat reliever Joseph Bello tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to secure the title for Baruch.

Longarzo and Cocozza each finished with four hits Sunday, while each driving in three runs.  Cameron Soto was 2-4 with three RBI batting out of the No. 9 spot for Baruch.

Bearcat starter John Kim tossed 6.1 innings to earn the win, allowing six runs.  After Calvin Adam faced four batters in the seventh, Bello moved from behind the plate to the mound and allowed three hits and one run in 2.2 innings to pick up the save.

Erik Rank and Jason Roser each finished with four hits for CCNY as the Beavers rapped out 22 hits on the afternoon.  Budzinski went 3-5 with four RBI, while Jake Brenner finished with three hits.

Gerard Molinaro took the loss for CCNY, working the first three innings and allowing eight hits and seven runs (five earned).
