2025 CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Major Awards, All-Stars Announced

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The 2025 CUNYAC men's volleyball All-Stars and major awards were announced Tuesday afternoon.  The All-Star teams and major awards are voted upon by the league's head coaches.

Baruch's Peter Gavroff was voted as the league's Player of the Year, while Nick Fuentes of John Jay was selected as Rookie of the Year.  Dion Csikortos of Brooklyn was tabbed as LIbero of the Year, while Lehman head coach Mickki Curtin was chosen Coach of the Year by her peers.  Shabbir Ahmed of Medgar Evers was selected as the Sportsmanship Award winner.

Player of the Year: Peter Gavroff, Baruch

Gavroff led the Bearcats to the CUNYAC regular season championship as well as the Bearcats' fifth straight conference tournament title in 2025.  Appearing in 25 of Baruch's 28 matches to date, Gavroff has totaled 227 kills on .225 hitting while adding 38 service aces, 267 digs and 29 blocks.  In conference play his .342 hitting percentage ranked seventh, while his 3.25 kills per set are good for fifth in the CUNYAC.  Overall his 3.05 kills per set also rank fifth.  Gavroff was named the MVP of the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Championship for the second straight season after totaling 18 kills, a .412 hitting percentage and eight digs in the final.

Rookie of the Year: Nick Fuentes, John Jay

Fuentes, one of two Bloodhounds to appear in all 28 matches, hit .260 and totaled a team-high 301 kills while adding 148 digs and 18 blocks.  Statistically, his 301 kills and 3.54 kills per set rank second in the conference, while his hitting percentage was good for eighth in the conference.  His 158 kills in conference play, a season in which John Jay reached the CUNYAC semifinals, also rank second overall.

Libero of the Year: Dion Csikortos, Brooklyn

Csikortos totaled 223 digs for the Bulldogs (2.48 digs/set), who reached the CUNYAC semifinals for the first time since 2017.  His 223 digs and 2.48 digs per set ranked second in the conference while his 2.6 digs per set in conference play were tops in the conference.

Coach of the Year: Mickki Curtin, Lehman

Curtin, in her third year at the helm the Lightning men's volleyball program, guided Lehman to 16 victories in 2025, its most since 2015, and a 16-10 overall record.  The Lightning opened the season by starting 5-0 and finished tied for fourth in the CUNYAC standings with a 7-7 conference record.  Lehman defeated conference regular season and tournament champion Baruch in the regular season conference finale, the only conference team to defeat the Bearcats in 2025.
