NEW YORK - Championship Most Valuable Player
Jadyn Orava totaled 25 kills to lead top-seeded John Jay to a 3-1 win over No. 3 Brooklyn in the 2025 CUNY Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Championship title match Friday evening at Baruch's ARC Arena. The Bloodhounds captured their second straight championship.
The Bloodhounds (23-6), who were making their third straight finals appearance, won by scores of 22-25, 25-18, 25-16, 27-25.
Brooklyn (14-16) led by as many as nine points in the fourth set and led 24-20 and serving to force a deciding fifth set. John Jay reeled off the next four points to take a 25-24 lead on a Brooklyn attack error, before the Bulldogs were able to stop the run on a Bloodhound setting error. Back-to-back kills by
Emilia Cascapera closed out the set and the match,
Orava, the conference's Player of the Year, hit .322 on the night and also recorded 21 digs and a pair of service aces. Cascapera recorded 13 kills on .257 hitting, while CUNYAC Rookie of the Year
Madison Mullan added nine kills.
Adrienne Xiao handed out 44 assists and had five of John Jay's 13 service aces on the evening.
Hailey Waugaman (12),
Lizbeth Martinez (12) and Xiao (11) also reached double figures for digs in the contest.
John Jay hit .231 on the night and limited the Bulldogs to .079 hitting. The Bloodhounds hit a blistering .393 in the third set.
Brooklyn, who was making its first finals appearance since 2021, was paced by
Saule Okeke-Ziburkus' 12 kills, while
Olive Carroll recorded eight and
Ella Snobar six. Snobar also finished with six total blocks along with
Olivia Fan.
Ruti Joshi finished with a team-high 15 digs, while
Maria Reyes notched 12 and
Amra Mulic 10. Reyes and Mulic had 13 and 11 assists, respectively.
John Jay earns the CUNYAC automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship and will learn its next opponent on Monday at 1 pm when the NCAA women's volleyball selection show airs on NCAA.com.
