CCNY Chosen as Preseason Favorites in 2024 CUNYAC Preseason Poll; Preseason Players to Watch Announced

FLUSHING, N.Y. –  The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) has announced its annual preseason poll for the 2024 women’s soccer season, and based upon first-place votes, CCNY was chosen as the favorite to win the title, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches. Head coaches were not permitted to vote for their own program.
 
CCNY was awarded 21 points and three first-place votes, while John Jay was also awarded 21 points and two first-place votes. The two teams have played in the conference championship in each of the last two seasons, with John Jay winning the title in 2022 and CCNY capturing the championship in 2023.
 
Brooklyn was slated to finish third with 17 points and the lone remaining first-place vote. Lehman was picked fourth with 16 points, followed by York (10) and Medgar Evers (5).
 
The 2024 CUNYAC Women’s Soccer Championship will take place from November 2 through November 9. The four-team, single-elimination tournament begins with semifinal action on Saturday, November 2 hosted by the higher seed, concluding with the championship match on Saturday, November 9 at Queens College.

CUNYAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Players to Watch
Abigail Joseph (Brooklyn) – Abigail Joseph had a strong 2023 campaign on the back line for the Bulldogs. In addition to her presence on defense, she recorded two game-winning goals during the season.
 
MacKenzie Moreno (CCNY) – MacKenzie Moreno was a CUNYAC All-Star last season, recording seven goals and four assists for 18 points, third best on the roster. Most importantly, she helped CCNY claim the program’s first CUNYAC championship since 2012.
 
Barbara Meda (Lehman) – Barbara Meda was named the 2023 CUNYAC Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year after a stellar rookie campaign. Meda produced 13 goals, fourth-most in the conference, and ranked No. 5 in total points (27). She produced five multi-goal performances, including a hat-trick against Yeshiva.
 
Mikayla Schoch (John Jay) – Mikayla Schoch was a CUNYAC All-Star last season, making 12 starts and finishing with six goals and two assists for 14 points. Her performance on the field and off landed her College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-District Team accolades.
 
Nia Butler (Medgar Evers) – Nia Butler appeared in six games for the Cougars and represented Medgar Evers on the 2023 CUNYAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
 
Zaria Neptune (York) – Zaria Neptune appeared in 11 games for York last season, recording two goals and one assist.
