Baruch Selected as Preseason Favorite in 2024 CUNYAC Women's Tennis Preseason Poll; Preseason Players to Watch Announced

FLUSHING, N.Y. –  The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) has announced its annual preseason poll for the 2024 women's tennis season, and Baruch was chosen to repeat as conference champions, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Head coaches were not permitted to vote for their own program.
 
The Bearcats finished atop the standings with 25 points, including five first-place votes. Baruch went 12-4 overall last season, posting a perfect 5-0 conference to capture en route to winning an eighth league title in program history.
 
Hunter finished second with 21 points and the lone remaining first-place vote, followed by Brooklyn (15), John Jay (13), Lehman (11) and York (5).
 
The 2024 CUNYAC/HSS Women's Tennis Championship is scheduled for October 29 through October 31. The four-team, single-elimination tournament begins with first round action on Tuesday, October 29 at the USTA National Center, concluding with the championship match on Thursday, October 31 at the Flushing facility.

CUNYAC Women's Tennis Preseason Players to Watch
Ava Deguzman (Baruch) – Ava Deguzman is the reigning three-time CUNYAC Player of the Year. Deguzman produced a strong 2023 campaign, going 13-1 overall at topflight singles and 13-2 at No. 1 doubles, boasting perfect conference records at each. Most importantly, she led Baruch to a second straight conference title, earning Championship MVP honors. In addition, she was named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American and an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
 
Diana Rezk (Brooklyn) – Diana Rezk went 7-6 overall last season across three singles flights. At the end of the season, she was a recipient of Brooklyn's Coaches' Award.
 
Anna Chapko (Hunter) – Anna Chapko was named a CUNYAC All-Star last season, going 5-6 overall last season across No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Most importantly, she led Hunter back to the finals of the CUNYAC Women's Tennis Championship.
 
Sarina Moi (John Jay) – Sarina Moi was a first team all-conference performer for the Bloodhounds last season, finishing with an overall singles record of 7-4, including a 3-1 mark against conference opponents. In addition to her success on the court, her excellence off the court landed her CSC All-District accolades.
 
Caroline Lopez (Lehman) – Caroline Lopez was a second team all-league performer last season, picking up a pair of conference wins at the No. 2 singles position with a 3-1 conference record at topflight doubles.
 
Dawa Bhote (York) – Last season, Bhote paired with Lhakpa Sherpa to claim an 8-4 victory on the No. 2 doubles court against Lehman College (Sept. 27). Competing on the No. 5 singles court, she took a set off of Baruch College's Ellie Eidelzon in October. Her contributions spearheaded a 2023 York College Women's Tennis Newcomer of the Year Award.
