FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 10, 2024) – The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) is excited to reveal its regular season awards for the 2024 season, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches.
John Jay’s
Jailene Santiago was named CUNYAC Player of the Year, while Baruch hurler
Carly Quint was named CUNYAC Pitcher of the Year. Hunter’s
Sonia Rosenthal was voted CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, while Hawks head coach
Ralph Moroni earned conference Coach of the Year accolades.
Player of the Year: Jailene Santiago, John Jay
Jailene Santiago proved to be a dominant all-around performer for the Bloodhounds, earning CUNYAC Player of the Week honors on two occasions and Pitcher of the Week accolades four times. She leads the conference in several offensive categories including hits (54), home runs (14), and RBI (62). In the circle, she owns the league’s best ERA (2.13) with a WHIP of 1.19 and conference-bests in strikeouts (120) and shutouts (5), including a no-hitter against Notre Dame of Maryland University.
Pitcher of the Year: Carly Quint, Baruch
Carly Quint was sensational in the circle this season, posting a 2.57 ERA in the regular season with 91 strikeouts across 109 innings pitched. She recorded three shutouts and held batters to a sub-.260 batting average.
Rookie of the Year: Sonia Rosenthal, Hunter
Sonia Rosenthal was a bright spot for the Hawks in her rookie campaign, leading the squad in batting average (.385) and slugging percentage (.462). She recorded a hit in 14 games, including seven multi-hit outings.
Coach of the Year: Ralph Moroni, Hunter
In his 18th season at Hunter, Ralph Moroni led the Hawks to a second-place finish in the regular season and a spot in the CUNYAC Softball Championship final.
