MBWA Announcement

NEW YORK, N.Y. –
The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MWBA) have announced its All-Met Teams for the 2023-24 season, and three men's basketball players from the City University of New York (CUNYAC) earned postseason recognition.

Baruch’s Devin Nicholson earned a spot on the First Team, while Lehman’s Kai Parris and CCNY’s Yassine Sakhi landed a spot on the All-Met Second Team.

Being named All-Met is unique in that there are 36 colleges and universities and more than 500 players under the MBWA Division III men’s umbrella. The 2023-24 All-Met teams will be honored at the 91st MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner on Thursday, April 18, at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, NY. The Haggerty dinner is the longest running, media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.

Nicholson added yet another accolade to her terrific 2023-24 campaign, earning All-Met laurels after being named CUNYAC Player of the Year, a NABC First Team All-District 4 performer, a D3Hoops.com All-Region 4 Second Team honoree, and an All-ECAC performer.

Most importantly, he led Baruch to a second straight regular season championship and third consecutive tournament title, earning MVP honors for a second straight campaign.

Parris was named a First Team CUNYAC All-Star in his first season in a Lightning uniform. Parris ranked third in the conference in scoring at 17.6 points per game and ranked No. 2 in free throw percentage (.775), No. 5 in field goal percentage (.499) and No. 8 in rebounding with 7.0 rebounds per contest. Most importantly, he led Lehman to a third consecutive appearance in the CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Championship Game.

Sakhi received All-Met laurels for a second time in his career after landing a spot on the CUNYAC All-Star First Team for a second straight season. The guard led the conference in total assists (127), assists per game (4.9) and minutes played (35.2) in addition to finishing second in scoring (17.9). In addition, he ranked No. 4 in free throw percentage (.740) and No. 6 in field goal percentage (.492).
