Former CUNYAC Commissioner Ted Hurwitz Passes Away

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The City University of New York Athletic Conference mourns the passing of former CUNYAC commisioner and Lehman College Athletic Hall of Fame member Ted Hurwitz this week.

Hurwitz served as the commissioner of the CUNYAC for 12 years, from 1991-2003.

Prior to his tenure as CUNYAC commissioner, Hurwitz spent 22 years (1969-1991) at Lehman College, where he guided two teams to championships.  With Hurwitz in charge, the Lehman women's varsity basketball team became Hudson Valley Athletic Conference champions in 1979, and the following year won the New York State Division III crown. In 1989, the Lightning men's tennis team won the CUNYAC title under his direction.

Hurwitz was also part of the Lehman men's basketball coaching staff of Edwin Kramer in which the Lightning won back-to-back CUNYAC Championships during 1973-74 and 1974-75 seasons, respectively.

Hurwitz was inducted into the Lehman Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.
