FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 22, 2023) – Baruch College was presented with the 2022-23 CUNYAC Senior College Commissioner's Cup at the 36th Annual Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet at Terrace on the Park.
The Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic programs in the CUNY Athletic Conference as determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success during both regular season and championship competition.
In one of the closest calls in conference history, the Bearcats leaped over Hunter College in the spring season to claim the trophy for the second straight season and the 10th time in school history. Baruch finished with 128 points, followed by archrival Hunter who accumulated 126 points. CCNY finished third with 68 points to round out the top three.
Across the winter and spring seasons, Baruch claimed the full allotment of points in men's swimming, men's basketball, and men's tennis, winning both the regular season and postseason championships in each sport, respectively. The Bearcats earned another 15 points in men's volleyball, winning their third straight conference title while finishing as the league's runner-up in the regular season. Baruch picked up 10 more points in women's swimming and softball, finishing second in the regular season standings and the runner-up in the postseason.
Hunter earned all 20 points in women's swimming, winning both the regular season and postseason championships. The Hawks women's track and field program earned conference titles during the indoor and outdoor campaigns, claiming 10 points in each. In men's volleyball, Hunter picked up 15 points, winning the regular season title and making an appearance in the tournament championship game. Hunter grabbed another eight points in men's tennis, finishing third in the regular season standings and reaching the championship finale. The Hawks also scored three points in men's outdoor track & field.
CCNY claimed the full allotment of points in baseball, winning the regular season title for the first time in school history and its first conference championship since 1994. The Beavers scored 10 points in men's indoor track & field after securing an unprecedented 12th straight title. CCNY scored five points apiece in women's indoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field and men's outdoor track & field. The Beavers also grabbed three points in men's basketball following a third-place effort in the regular season.
John Jay finished fourth in the Commissioner's Cup standings with 62 points. In the winter, John Jay picked up 10 points in women's basketball, finishing as the regular season runner-up while making a second straight appearance in the tournament championship game. In the spring, the Bloodhounds claimed 20 points in softball, winning both the regular season and tournament championships. In addition, John Jay picked up three more points in men's volleyball with a third-place regular season finish.
Lehman finished fifth in the Commissioner's Cup standings with 61 points. In the winter, the Lightning picked up 10 points each in men's swimming and men's basketball, finishing second in the regular season and postseason championships, respectively. Lehman also grabbed five points in men's indoor track & field with a second-place finish. In the spring, Lehman earned the full allotment of points in men's outdoor track & field after claiming a third consecutive conference title. The Lightning also scored eight points in baseball after finishing third in the regular season and appearing in the tournament championship series. In addition, Lehman scored three points in women's outdoor track & field.
Brooklyn came in sixth in the standings, finishing the 2022-23 campaign with 44 points. In the winter, the Bulldogs claimed 20 points in women's basketball after winning both the regular season and tournament championships. Brooklyn grabbed another three points in men's swimming following a third-place regular season finish. In the spring, the Bulldogs scored five points in men's tennis with a runner-up finish in the regular season.
