2023 CUNYAC Men’s Soccer All-Star Awards and Teams Announced

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2023) – As we await the upcoming 2023 Men’s Soccer Championship game on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Queens College, the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) is excited to announce the league’s all-star awards and teams for the 2023 season, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches.

Baruch’s Arman Celebi was voted CUNYAC Player of the Year, while Brooklyn’s George Koufos was selected Rookie of the Year. In addition, Hunter’s Dan Cinelli was also chosen as the conference’s Coach of the Year.

Player of the Year: Arman Celebi, Baruch
Celebi has produced a strong 2023 season in Bearcats uniform. A two-time CUNYAC Player of the Week honoree, the sophomore leads the conference in points (28) this season with a league-best 12 goals and four assists.

He has produced four multi-goal performances, highlighted by a five-score effort against York. Most importantly, he has guided Baruch back to the conference championship game for a third consecutive season.

Rookie of the Year: George Koufos, Brooklyn
Koufos becomes the first Bulldog to earn Rookie of the Year accolades since Azizjon Ziyaev earned the citation in 2017. A CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honoree, Koufos leads the conference in assists (9) this season, recording an assist in seven contests. The rookie assisted on the game-winning goal to lead Brooklyn past John Jay in the first round of the CUNYAC Men’s Soccer Championship.

Most importantly, the rookie has helped Brooklyn return to the CUNYAC Men’s Soccer Championship Game for the first time since 2014.

Coach of the Year: Dan Cinelli, Hunter
In just his second season with the Hawks, Cinelli led Hunter to a 5-1-1 conference record and the No. 2 seed in the CUNYAC Men’s Soccer Championship, highlighted by a regular season victory over Baruch.
