Baruch Tabbed Preseason Favorites in 2022 Women’s Tennis Preseason Coaches’ Poll

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 1, 2022) - The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) has announced its annual preseason coaches' poll for the 2022 women's tennis season, and Baruch was picked as the favorite, as voted upon by the league's head coaches.
 
The Bearcats were chosen to repeat as conference champions, totaling 35 points and five first-place votes. Baruch went 12-4 overall in 2021, going unbeaten against league opponents to capture its first conference championship since 2016. 

Baruch will be led by reigning Player of the Year, Ava Deguzman, who was also voted as the Preseason Player of the Year. Competing at top flight singles last season, Deguzman went a perfect 15-0, highlighted by a flawless 5-0 mark against conference opponents.
 
Hunter, the 2021 runner-up, was slated second in the poll with 30 points and one first-place vote. Brooklyn was picked third with 21 points, followed by John Jay (19), Lehman (15) and York (6) to round out the six-team ballot.
 
The 2022 CUNYAC Women's Tennis Championship is slated to begin with first round action on Sunday, Oct. 23. The semifinals are set for Tuesday, Oct. 25, with the final being slated for Thursday, Oct. 25. The semifinals and final will be held at the iconic USTA National Tennis Center.
