Brooklyn, NY---Announced by the Brooklyn College Department of Athletics,
Shelby Thomas has been named BC's new Compliance Coordinator. Thomas comes to Brooklyn from St. John's University where she was a Graduate Assistant for Compliance at the NCAA Division I program.
"Shelby came highly recommended and has a passion for NCAA compliance making her a perfect fit for the position," commented Acting Director of Athletics,
Alex Lang, who led the search committee. "We look forward to her working with our student-athletes."
Working directly with the Director of Compliance at St. John's, Thomas assisted with a number of tasks relating to eligibility and academic success. She played a key role in compiling data for the Academic Progress Report into NCAA databases for student-athletes' eligibility, supported the preparation of the Federal Graduation Rate and Graduation Success Reports, and assisted with the submission of the NCAA Sport Sponsorship and Demographics Annual Report. Thomas also regularly maintained and updated student-athletes' individual files and program rosters for compliance measures.
"I'm more than excited to be a member of the Bulldogs community," Thomas stated upon receiving her appointment. "I look forward to adding my skills and experience as both an administrator and former student-athlete to the athletics department at Brooklyn College."
Prior to her compliance work at St. John's, Thomas served as an intern for Sportsme as a digital marketing intern. Her internship gave her experience designing and presenting social media campaign ideas to national outlets, assisting in the daily management of of corporate social media platforms, performing market analysis, and creating content for social media platforms.
Thomas also has administrative experience at the youth basketball level, serving as an operations manager for Classics AAU. As an operations manager, she was responsible for scheduling, budgeting, updating websites with results and individual statistics, and organizing equipment for practices and games.
Having earned her BS in Sports Management from St. John's, the Baltimore, MD native is currently pursuing her Master's of Professional Studies in Sports Management at St. John's.
