FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 5, 2022) – The City University of New York Athletic Conference is excited to announce its 2022 All-Stars for softball, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches.
Baruch’s
Carly Quint and
Nicole Bellini was voted the Player and Coach of the Year, respectively, while Hunter’s
T’ea Panagakos was tabbed Pitcher of the Year. In addition, John Jay’s
Rylea Sandel garnered Rookie of the Year recognition.
Player of the Year: Carly Quint, Fr, UT, Baruch
A two-time CUNYAC Player of the Week honoree, Quint was the league’s most versatile player in 2022. The Sewell, New Jersey native led the conference in several categories including batting average (.504), hits (60) and runs batted in (62). In addition to her strong play at the plate, Quint was also an outstanding pitching for the Bearcats, going 10-6 overall in the circle.
“I am so incredibly grateful to be able to add to the achievements of Baruch athletics this year,” said Quint. “Since we stepped foot in the gym in January to prepare for our season, I knew Baruch softball was capable of great things. I want to thank my coaches, teammates, and the entire athletic department for supporting me on and off the field throughout the entire season. I look forward to our tournament play this weekend and continuing to represent our school."
Pitcher of the Year: T’ea Panagakos, Jr, P, Hunter
A two-time CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week, Panagakos was sensational in the circle all season long for the Hawks. The Staten Island native boasted the league’s top ERA of 1.79 and held opposing batters to a conference-best .223 average.
Rookie of the Year: Rylea Sandel, Fr, INF, John Jay
Sandel turned in an impressive rookie campaign for the Bloodhounds, quickly ascending to become one of the league’s best players. All the way from Deer Park, Texas, Sandel ranked No. 2 in the CUNYAC in batting average (.495) and RBI (51) while leading the conference in slugging percentage (.952) and extra base hits (26), including a league-high 10 home runs.
Coach of the Year: Nicole Bellini, Baruch
In just her first season as head coach, Bellini has returned to her alma mater to lead the Bearcats to one of their winningest seasons in program history, surpassing 20 wins for a third time in school history and the first time since 2010.
"It is an honor to receive the Softball Coach of the Year Award. Thank you to our Athletics department for their support and guidance throughout my first season. I am incredibly thankful for my assistant coaches Nicole Flint and George St. Hilaire, and so very proud of our team, without all of whom this year's achievements would not be possible!"
