Top-Seeds Hunter and Baruch Set to Meet in Friday’s CUNYAC Men’s Volleyball Championship Final

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 7, 2022) – For a sixth consecutive season, top-seeded Hunter College and No. 2 seed Baruch College will square off for conference bragging rights in the 2022 CUNYAC/Healthfirst Men’s Volleyball Championship Match on Friday, Apr. 8 at 6:30 pm at ARC Arena. The match will broadcast globally on Facebook Live.

For a seventeenth time in CUNYAC history, the two Lexington Avenue schools will compete to hoist the championship trophy. The Hawks are seeking their 18th conference title in program history, while the Bearcats look to retain the league title for a second straight season and 12th time in school history. In 2019, Baruch upset Hunter in five sets, snapping the Hawk’s streak of three consecutive CUNYAC championships. Baruch is 9-7 all-time against Hunter in the conference championship final.

The Hawks reach the tournament finale for a sixth consecutive season after claiming their fifth straight regular season championship, earning a first-round bye. Hunter knocked off No. 4 seed John Jay in the semifinal round, cruising to a 3-1 victory. It was a balanced effort in the semifinals, as four Hawks recorded seven or more kills in the victory.

Baruch returns to the championship match for an unprecedented 16th straight campaign. The Bearcats defeated No. 7 York in straight sets in the first round and clinched their spot in the final following a 3-0 victory over No. 3 CCNY Thursday evening. Haoxin Hu hit .320 in the outing, notching a team-best 12 kills. Stallone Shankar dished out 30 assists, while Defeng Han produced 11 digs.

Hunter and Baruch split their regular season meetings, each winning on their respective home court by identical 3-1 scores.
