MBWA Release
NEW YORK, N.Y. (Apr. 19, 2022) – The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) announced its men’s basketball postseason awards for the 2021-22 season, and five student-athletes from the CUNY Athletic Conference earned All-Met citations.
Lehman’s
Gian Batista highlighted the conference’s All-Met honorees by earning First Team laurels. The senior has now earned All-Met honors in back-to-back seasons. With this most recent award, Batista added yet another accolade to a long list of postseason honors. In addition to being an All-Met performer, Batista was named a NABC Second Team All-American and All-District performer, the 2022 CUNYAC Player of the Year and a D3Hoops.com All-Region honoree. In addition, Batista was also invited to compete in the Reese’s Division III All-Star Game.
Teammate
Isaiah Geathers and Baruch’s
Adnan Bajrami earned All-Met laurels for a second straight season, each landing on the second team along with York’s
Quran Dublin. All three were First Team CUNYAC All-Stars in 2022 in addition to D3Hoops.com All-Region performers.
John Jay’s
Angel Rivera, a CUNYAC First Team All-Star this season, earned his first-ever All-Met citation, earning a spot on the third team.
The All-Met teams will be honored at the 89th MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner on Monday, April 25, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY. The Haggerty dinner is the longest running, media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.
