FLUSHING, N.Y. – For the first time since 2019, the Baruch College men’s basketball team will compete in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament. The Bearcats will face nationally ranked No. 4 Christopher Newport in the first round on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m.
Baruch (20-7) punched its ticket to the big dance by winning the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Men’s Basketball Championship.
The Bearcats knocked off the top-seeded Lehman Lightning in an overtime thriller to win their fourth conference title in program history. Emil Purisic led the way in the championship final with 23 points (9-10 FG) and 14 rebounds, earning tournament MVP recognition.
Christopher Newport, a member of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference, is 24-2 overall and are winners of its last 21 contests. The Captains are in the NCAA Tournament for a sixth straight season and 25
th time in program history. The squad is led by Jahn Hines, the 2022 C2C Player of the Year.
The NCAA Division III Tournament will continue the weekend on March 11-12 with the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds at sectional sites. The Semifinals and Championship game will be played March 18-19 at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum Arena in Fort Wayne, Indiana
