2022 #CUNYAC/HSS Men’s Basketball Championship Field Set

FLUSHING, N.Y. –  Now that the regular season has come to an end, the field is set for the 2022 CUNYAC/HSS Men's Basketball Championship. Eight teams with championship ambitions will compete to hoist the Dutch Shoe on Friday, Feb. 25 at City College of New York.

Lehman enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed, winning its first regular season title since the 2017-18 campaign. The Lightning went 19-3 overall and 12-2 in league play, entering the championship winners of three straight.
 
Lehman is led by Isaiah Geathers and Gian Batista. Geathers is averaging 23.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest, while Batista posts 19.8 points, 10.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.
 
Baruch, the 2020 tournament runner-up, is the No. 2 seed in the field. The Bearcats went 17-7 overall with an 11-3 league record during the regular season but have suffered three consecutive losses.
 
The Bearcats have three players averaging double figures, including Adnan Bajrami (15.4 ppg), Emil Purisic (13.7 ppg) and Jehmehl Fair (11.9 ppg).
 
York is the No. 3 seed in the tournament, going 12-10 overall and 10-4 against conference foes. The Cardinals enter the championship red-hot having won their last four outings.
 
Quran Dublin is averaging a team-best 21.9 points per game, while Mambe Koureissi is posting 15.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per contest.
 
John Jay is the No. 4 seed in the championship field. The Bloodhounds are 11-13 overall with an 8-6 mark against CUNYAC opponents, capping off the regular season with an impressive 79-71 victory over Baruch.
 
Angel Rivera is the top scorer for John Jay, netting 17.7 points per game, while Garrison Watkins is averaging 11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest.
 
Hunter is the No. 5 seed, going 12-12 overall and 7-7 in conference play during the regular season. The Hawks are coming off a road win over CCNY in their regular season finale.
 
Hunter has four players averaging double figures, including Cormac Reilly (16.4 ppg), Luka Jakic (14.3 ppg), Jeremy Montrose (12.0 ppg) and Gene Proper (10.1 ppg).
 
CCNY is the No. 6 seed in the field. The Beavers went 7-16 overall and 3-11 against CUNYAC opponents during the regular season. Yassine Sakhi is the team's leading scorer at 18.3 points per game, while Daniel Piszczatowski is netting 15.2 points per contest.
 
Medgar Evers enters the postseason as the No. 7 seed, going 6-17 overall and 3-11 in conference play during the regular season. Andre Evans Jr. is averaging a team-best 13.7 points per game, while Mousa Sinera is recording 13.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per outing.
 
Rounding out the field is Brooklyn, the defending conference champions. The Bulldogs went 3-21 overall and 2-12 during the regular season. Noah Shy is the team's top scorer, averaging 16.2 points per game.
 
Quarterfinal action gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 19, when the top-seeded Lightning host Brooklyn at the APEX. Lehman took both meetings against the Bulldogs during the regular season.
 
The second game of the afternoon features Baruch and Medgar Evers at the ARC. The two teams split during the regular season, with the road team winning each contest.
 
Quarterfinal action continues on Sunday, Feb. 20, when York hosts CCNY and John Jay hosts Hunter.
 
Semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 21 at the higher seed. Those winners will advance to Friday's (Feb. 25) Championship Game at CCNY at Nat Holman Gymnasium. The final will broadcast globally on Facebook Live.
