NEW YORK, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2022) – After falling short last season in a five-set classic on its home court, top-seeded Hunter College reclaimed the CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Championship after defeating No. 2 seed Brooklyn College in straight sets (27-25, 25-12, 25-23) Friday evening at Baruch ARC Arena.
With the victory, Hunter earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship. The NCAA DIII Women's Volleyball Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m.

The Hawks (19-10) turned in a strong performance against the defending conference champion Bulldogs (17-13) to claim their league-best 27th title in program history and seventh in the last eight seasons.
Tied at 11 in the early moments of the first set, the Hawks ran off six straight points to take a 17-11 lead. Following a timeout from the Bulldogs, Brooklyn countered with an 8-2 spurt to tie the match at 19. The two teams traded points, until back-to-back kills from rookies
Tionna Moss and
Lily Mattison secured a 27-25 victory for the Hawks and a 1-0 series lead.
In the second set, the regular season champions made quick work of Brooklyn, jumping out to an 18-6 lead en route to a 25-12 victory.
Facing elimination, the Bulldogs raced out to an early 11-7 advantage. The Hawks chipped away at the deficit to tie up the set at 13-all. Much like the opening frame, the two teams exchanged points to the very end. Trailing 24-23, Hunter took the lead with back-to-back kills from CUNYAC Player of the Year,
Mariam Ouattara. On the next serve,
Erin Dugan put the match away with a service ace, clinching the three-set victory and conference bragging rights for Hunter.
Ouattara recorded a match-high 11 kills on 19 attempts (.474), along with two total blocks. For her performance, she was named the championship's Most Valuable Player.
Bethany Tomaneng, the 2022 CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, produced a double-double of 36 assists and 11 digs, while Mattison finished with eight kills and three total blocks, as the rookies each earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
For Brooklyn,
Aleah Rafat finished with a team-high 10 kills to go along with seven digs, while
Tessa Winkleman recorded seven kills, six digs and three total blocks.
