Brooklyn’s Anna Curran Highlights CUNYAC/USS Trivia Winners

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The City University of New York Athletic Conference, in collaboration with the University Student Senate, wrapped up nine weeks of engaging our students during these unprecedented times with daily trivia about CUNYAC and CUNY's 25 campuses.

Anna Curran, a senior at Brooklyn College and a four-year member of the Bulldogs softball team, participated in 44 of 45 days of trivia and proved to be very knowledgeable of CUNY and CUNYAC history, answering 119 of 135 questions correctly (88%). In seven of the nine weeks, she answered 13 questions or more correctly, featuring two weeks of perfect scores.

"I was truly surprised when I learned that I had won the grand prize, and I am thankful to have been picked. I thought it was a brilliant idea for CUNYAC to host new sets of trivia each week," Curran said. "Overall, it was a really fun experience to distract from the difficult times we're living in now. The daily trivia gave me something to look forward to in the morning because you never knew what kind of questions were going to be asked."

As the grand prize winner, Curran will be rewarded a brand-new iPad Air.

"The CUNY Athletic Conference has always been a leader in keeping our students engaged," Assistant Director of Media Relations Matthew Torres said. "Like most, we were disappointed to have our Spring season cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But in the spirit of competition during these uncertain times, what better way to keep our students involved than holding a daily contest highlighting the history of CUNY. Thank you to our students, the University State Senate and our corporate partners for their participation."

The contest, which began on Mar. 23, ran every Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CUNYAC released a form with three multiple choice questions focused on CUNY and CUNY Athletics related history, ranging from notable alumni to campus infrastructure.

The first 25 daily responses with all three correct answers received a t-shirt. Overall, the contest attracted 585 CUNY students, with 416 t-shirts awarded. The contest produced seven days of perfect scores among all participants.

Our weekly winner, awarded to the first person to answer the most questions correctly for the week, received a more substantial prize, courtesy of CUNYAC and our corporate partners (Pepsi, Hospital for Special Surgery, and B1 Natural Patches). Those prizes ranged from a Roku stick to a Bluetooth speaker.

Our weekly winners spanned five different campuses, including Baruch, Brooklyn, CCNY, Lehman and John Jay.
