QCC Volleyball Advances To National Championships For 4th Consecutive Year

Flushing, NY (Nov. 4, 2019) - For the fourth straight year, Queensborough Community College Tigers are NJCAA District Champions defeating both Massasoit Community College (3-0) and Fashion Institute of Technology (3-0) to punch their ticket to Minnesota.

"Our focus right now, is the same as it has been all season, we will practice all weel and try to play one game at a time," said Tigers' Head Coach Jason Demas. "Our goal all season has been to get back to Nationals. I'm extremely proud of this team and we can't week until next week."

In the first game, QCC (24-5) made quick work of Massasoit (17-5) winning in straight sets 25-13, 25-15, 25-8. The attack was led by CUNYAC Championship MVP Paige Hughes and rookie sensation Amira Durkovic. Hughes finished her line with 10 kills, seven digs, and one assisted block. Durkovic led all teams with an astounding 21 assists, adding seven digs with three serve aces.

Against FIT (27-2), it was a rematch of the Region XV Final, which the Tigers won 3-2. This time, QCC didn’t drop a set winning 25-18, 25-17, 25-20. Hughes led all teams with 13 kills, adding 10 digs, and an incredible .429 hitting percentage. 

The Tigers' next stop is NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota next week. The matchups and game schedule will be announced at a later time.
