CUNY Athletics Unveils StudentsFirst Rewards Plan

Flushing, NY - The City University of New York Athletic Conference is proud to announce a new initiative aimed at giving back to the students. The StudentsFirst Rewards Plan will be a semester-long student life competition to see which student will attend the most events and be awarded FREE TUITION FOR A YEAR!

“Enhancing the campus life and student activities is among our highest priorities at CUNY,” said Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Frank Sanchez. “The CUNYAC Student Life Initiative is a creative and innovative effort to increase student attendance and participation at all of our colleges.  Congratulations to Commissioner Ivkovic and the CUNYAC staff for their commitment to improving the quality of the CUNY student experience.”

All CUNY students who attend a CUNYAC Championship event will earn points. To earn points, you must use the online ticketing system and check-in at the ticketing desk when you arrive at the event. The name you have registered online must match the name on your CUNY ID and only current CUNY students are eligible for prizes. At the end of the semester, the points will be totaled and the top point getters will earn some amazing prizes. Prizes will include: Free Tuition for a year at any CUNY college, laptops, tablets, and more! For seniors, tuition can be substituted for other prizes or can be used for graduate school at CUNY. Any ties for first place will be broken via drawing of names with each of the top honorees receiving one of the aforementioned prizes. Free tuition will only be rewarded to one student.

“Engaging our vast number of students for a better student life experience is our goal,” said Commissioner Zak Ivkovic, adding “and what a better way to do that than to have them show off their school pride and colors at various CUNY Athletic Championships.”

Leaderboards will be updated seasonally, after Winter, Spring and Fall Championship in 2013, and will be found on cunyathletics.com under the “Championships” heading. There will be a total of 29 dates where points can be earned, all within the five boroughs of New York City. Each event on a CUNY campus will account for 10 points to the attendee, while off-campus venues will be worth 15 points apiece, such as the USTA National Tennis Center, MCU Park and Icahn Stadium. The only venue that will be worth 20 points will be the Armory Indoor Track facility since there is a charge for admission to the facility – all other CUNYAC events are FREE of charge to anyone with a valid ticket, which is easily obtainable at http://www.cunyathletics.com/tickets

The point breakdown will be as follows:
Events Hosted on a CUNY Campus                                                                           10 Points
Events Hosted Off-Campus                                                                                          15 Points
Indoor Track Championships at the Armory (ticket must be purchased)  20 Points

Prizes will include:
First Place           Free Tuition for a Year

Third Place          iPad
All prizes will be distributed at the end of the CUNY Month, November 2013. We look forward to engaging our student population and showcasing New York City as our campus. Any ties for first place will be broken via drawing of names with each of the top honorees receiving one of the aforementioned prizes. Prizes will be added throughout the year. Free tuition will only be rewarded to one student. A minimum of 15 prizes will be awarded.
