JJC's Shao & Baruch's Bleustein Bring Home Tennis Praise;
CUNYAC/HSS Quarterfinals Set For Saturday

CUNYAC/Hospital For Special Surgery Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Dong Shao
#1 Singles, Senior
Flushing, NY/
Patchogue-Medford

Despite missing the majority of the season for the Bloodhounds, senior Dong Shao is 4-0 on the season after beating the top players from York, Staten Island and Baruch in succession last week, as John Jay looks to clinch the #4 seed in the upcoming championships.

First up for the Flushing resident last week was a 6-1, 6-2 win over the Cardinals' Ayman Busat, followed by a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 comeback victory over CSI #1 Nicholas Zikos, probably the best freshman in the Conference. He concluded the week with an easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Baruch's Chrsitopher Jenkins. Shao also went 2-1 in doubles for the period with partner Erkut Cakmak.

John Jay (4-3 CUNYAC) will travel to CCNY (4-3 CUNYAC) today in a battle for the final home quarterfinal as the CUNYAC/Hospital For Special Surgery Men's Tennis Championship gets underway on Saturday. The two neighboring schools will match up again with the winner advancing to Monday's semifinals at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center.

Honor Roll: Raul Santana (Lehman), Anthony Sidereis (Brooklyn).

CUNYAC/Hospital For Special Surgery Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week

Phillip Bleustein, Baruch
#3 Singles, Freshman
Miami, FL/Kaplan Prep

At 10-0 overall (7-0 CUNYAC), Baruch's Phillip Bleustein earns his fourth CUNYAC/HSS Rookie of the Week of his initial season. Bleustein beat both his singles opponents at the third flight and split results in doubles with two different partners as the Bearcats played their only two matches of the week on the same day due to the inclement weather.

In Baruch's CUNYAC matchup with John Jay, the Miami native stopped Andreas Pantaloukas, 6-2, 6-2 and paired with Stephan Muller for an 8-3 win over Dong Shao and Erkut Cakmak. Later in the day, he willed out a win versus Manhattanville's Karim Mahmoud, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.

Baruch, the top seed in the 2011 CUNYAC HSS Championships will play at #8 York on Saturday at 11:00 am one of four quarterfinal matches on the day.

Honor Roll: Cesar Andrade (Lehman).
