Marc Gershel Named Hunter Head Swim Coach

NEW YORK
 – Hunter College Athletics is excited to announced the hiring of Marc Gershel as its new head coach of the women's swimming program.

Gershel joins the Hawks with nearly a decade of coaching experience at the highest levels of competitive swimming and endurance sports. Since 2015, he has served as head coach of the NYC Hydras, a U.S. Masters Swimming team, where he has developed athletes across all skill levels and fostered a strong team culture. In addition, Gershel has led Breakaway Endurance, a USA Triathlon program, since 2017, designing training plans for athletes, building strength and conditioning programs, and coordinating training trips and competitions both domestically and abroad.

As an athlete, Gershel has compiled an impressive résumé highlighted by his participation in the 2021 Ironman 70.3 World Championship and recognition as an Ironman All World Athlete in 2023. He has also earned multiple top-10 national finishes in U.S. Masters Swimming competition, including a third-place age group finish at the 2016 Open Water National Championships and victories at the St. Croix 1-Mile and 2-Mile swims in 2017 and 2018.

A U.S. Masters Swimming Level 3 certified head coach, Gershel is also certified in AED, CPR and lifeguarding. He earned his bachelor's degree in history with a minor in economics from the University of Arizona.

Gershel takes over a program that has captured five straight CUNYAC women's swimming and diving championships and continues to build momentum entering the upcoming season.
