NEW YORK (Feb. 4, 2025) --- Alexa Charles of Hunter College has been named Divisions II/III Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.

The designation, for games played Jan. 27-Feb. 2, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.

This is the second consecutive MBWA weekly honor for Charles and her third overall. It also marks the fourth straight week a CUNYAC women's basketball player has been recognized.  Lehman's Heaven Figueroa was recognized on January 14, while Mia Castillo of Baruch was honored on January 21.

A 5-8 junior guard from Tarrytown, NY, Charles --- who also was named a repeat CUNY Athletic Conference Player of the Week --- recorded a triple-double and two double-doubles, averaging 28.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 blocks and 7.3 steals per game as the conference leading Hawks (15-4, 9-0) notched three victories last week.

Charles shot 49.3% from the field (34-of-69) and was 17-of-25 at the free throw line as Hunter beat Sarah Lawrence 88-36 Monday and Medgar Evers 79-44 Tuesday, both on the road, and then defeated John Jay 71-50 Friday at home.

Against Sarah Lawrence, she posted 35 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 steals, and followed with a 25-point, 14-rebound effort against Medgar Evers.

Charles closed the week with a 25-point, 12-rebound outing against John Jay, adding six total steals and four blocks in the game.

She continues to rank No. 2 among both conference and NCAA Division III scoring leaders with 27.4 points per game, trailing only Baruch’s Mia Castillo.

Players receiving MBWA Divisions II/III Honorable Mention for the week: Lucy Alberici, Stevens; Daniella Bessler, Yeshiva; Natalie Bruns, NYU; Mia Castillo, Baruch; Tova Gelb, Vassar; Alicia Gumbs, York; Maddison Vaughn, Kean; Ashley Zeolla, John Jay.
