NEW YORK - The 2025 CUNY Athletic Conference women's cross country All-Conference awards and team was announced Tuesday morning.

Hunter College senior Shannon Ferri was named the conference's Runner of the Year, while the Hawks' Maria Gonzalez was tabbed Rookie of the Year.  Hunter head coach Marvin Hawkins was voted Coach of the Year by his peers, while CCNY's Karuna Aikawa was named the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award.

Runner of the Year: Shannon Ferri, Hunter (Sr., Cold Spring, N.Y.)

Ferri is the first Hawk to garner Runner of the Year honors since Annabel Gregg in 2021.

Ferri, a four-time CUNYAC Runner of the Week, was the Hawks' top performer all season, placing first at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational on September 14 with a 5K time of 20:27.9 and fourth at the Fred Pavlich Invitational on September 20 with a 25:21.9 6K effort.  At the conference championship October 27, Ferri led the Hawks to their 11th consecutive conference title with a 6K time of 25:09.7 and a second place finish.

Rookie of the Year: Maria Gonzalez, Hunter (Fr., Chester, N.Y.)

Gonzalez is the second straight Hunter runner to earn Rookie of the Year, joining teammate Mikaelle Cesar who was voted the award's recipient in 2024.

Gonzalez, who earned Rookie of the Week honors on September 30, recorded a 5K time of 23:03.1 at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational on September 14 to place fifth and ran a 23:42.5 at the Queensborough Cross Country Invitational on September 28 to take 17th.  At the conference championship, Gonzalez placed sixth overall with a 6K time of 28:05.7.

Coach of the Year: Marvin Hawkins, Hunter

Hawkins earned Coach of the Year in women's cross country for the third time in his career (2022, 2023).  He guided the Hawks to their 11th straight conference championship and 22nd overall by placing four runners in the top-10.  Hunter also finished first at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational on September 14.
