Hawks Capture 11th Consecutive CUNYAC Women's Cross Country Crown

BRONX, N.Y. - With four runners in the top 10, Hunter College captured its 11th consecutive CUNY Athletic Conference women's cross country championship on Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park.  The Hawks, with 40 points, outdistanced Medgar Evers, who came in second with 68.  Second marks the Cougars' highest-ever finish.

Hunter has now won a conference-record 22 CUNYAC women's cross country titles.

CCNY also finished with 68 points and came in third, with MEC winning via tiebreaking critera.  Baruch (76) and John Jay (110) rounded out the top five.

Baruch's Paz Moran was the individual champion and Championship Most Valuable Performer for the third straight season, completing the six kilometer course in 24:52.0.  She bested Hunter's Shannon Ferri by 17.7 seconds.  She is the first CUNYAC female runner to win three straight individual titles since Keisha Latty won three in a row for CCNY from 1994-96.

Mikaelle Cesar came in third for the Hawks with a time of 25:58.4.  Maria Gonzalez came in sixth with a time of 28:05.7, while Peach Kilroy placed ninth for Hunter with a time of 28:33.0.  

Brianna Lindo paced Medgar Evers with her fourth place finish, clocking a time of 26:59.6.  Kenia Irish-Bramble crossed the line seventh for the Cougars with a 28:15.5 effort, while Nana Samake was 13th (29:17.0).  Duranya Gayle was 15th for MEC with a time of 29:31.2.

Norma Flores led CCNY with her time of 28:24.7 to finish eighth overall.  Charlotte Goodell-Koenig came in 11th (29:00.2), while Karuna Aikawa was 14th with a 29:27.1 effort.

Brooklyn's Lily Zuss placed fifth with a time of 27:41.2, while Emily Stavanus was 10th for Baruch with a time of 28:51.2.  Maria Belov was the top John Jay finisher with a time of 29:07.4 to come home 12th.
