FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 22, 2024) – On the eve of the 2024 CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Championship Game, the conference is excited to announce its end-of-year awards for the 2023-24 season, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches.
 
Baruch claimed two of the three major awards, as Devin Nicholson was voted CUNYAC Player of the Year and head coach John Alesi was named Coach of the Year. In addition, York’s Aidony Nivar was voted CUNYAC Rookie of the Year.
 
Player of the Year: Devin Nicholson, Baruch
Nicholson was one of the most prolific scorers in the conference this season. Nicholson leads the league in scoring (20.3), total points (528), made field goals (188), 3-point FG percentage (.464), made 3-pointers (77) free throw percentage (.884).
 
Most importantly, he led Baruch to a second straight regular season championship and an appearance in the CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Championship Game for a fifth consecutive season.
 
Rookie of the Year: Aidony Nivar, York
Nivar had a strong rookie campaign in a Cardinals uniform. A seven-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honoree, he ranked top-10 in the conference in points per game (14.2), steals per game (1.8), total steals (47), 3-FG percentage (.376) and made 3-pointers (65).
 
Most importantly, he helped York returned to the postseason.
 
Coach of the Year: John Alesi, Baruch
Alesi earns Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career as Bearcats head coach. In his 11th season at the Lexington Avenue campus, he guided Baruch to its second straight regular season championship and an appearance in the tournament final for a fifth consecutive campaign.
