CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 16, 2024) – Now that the regular season has come to an end, the field is set for the 2024 CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Championship. Six programs with championship ambition will compete for an opportunity to claim conference bragging rights on Friday, February 23 at Baruch College.
Baruch, the two-time defending conference champions, are the No. 1 seed and received a first round bye. The Bearcats finished the regular season 17-8 overall with a 13-1 mark against conference opponents to win the regular season championship for a second consecutive campaign. Baruch enters the tournament having won its last five contests.
CCNY is the No. 2 seed in the bracket and received the other opening round bye. The Beavers finished the regular season on a nine-game winning streak, posting a 18-7 record with an 11-3 mark against conference opponents.
Lehman, last season’s runner-up, is the No. 3 seed in the championship. The Lightning completed the regular season 16-9 overall with an 11-3 record against CUNYAC opposition.
Hunter enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed after posting an 8-6 conference record in the regular season. Brooklyn finished 7-7 in conference play to earn the No. 5 seed in the championship, followed by York to round out the field.
Saturday’s first round matchups will feature No. 3 Lehman hosting No. 6 York and No. 4 Hunter hosting No. 5 Brooklyn. The Lightning won both regular season meetings against the Cardinals, while the Hawks split with the Bulldogs during the regular season.
The winner of the Hunter/Brooklyn contest will advance to the semifinal round, facing top-seeded Baruch on Wednesday, Feb. 21. The winner of the Lehman/York contest will travel to CCNY for the semifinal contest.
The two winners of the semifinals will advance to the championship game, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 23 at Baruch College. The winner will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
