Baseball 1/28/2024 8:35:00 PM Baruch Athletics Mourns Passing of Steven Patterson (Baseball 2019-2020; 2022-2023) Baruch College, the Baruch College Athletic Department and the Baseball Team are saddened to announce the passing of Steven Patterson. Patterson made a marked impact on the Baruch baseball team for four seasons where he participated in and was a part of winning 50 games, two CUNYAC Championships (2019, 2022), and played in Baruch's first-ever and only NCAA Baseball Tournament appearance (2019). He was a clutch performer who had a bases-loaded, two-out RBI walk to win Game 1 (14-13) of the 2022 CUNYAC Championship against CCNY played on a rainy Friday afternoon at the very same park that the Brooklyn Cyclones play on Coney Island (VIDEO). He also hit a memorable inside-the-park homer against John Jay during his rookie season. The New York Yankees fan and native of Miller Place on Long Island was an even bigger success story in the classroom being named a 2023 CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention for his outstanding efforts with a 3.53 GPA majoring in Finance and minoring in Law and Policy. He was also on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and was also named a CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Winter/Spring Certificate honoree in 2022 and 2023. During his 2023 senior season, he won the Baruch Bearcats Burt Beagle Loyalty Award and the CUNYAC Baseball Sportsmanship of the Year Honor. A role model to not only his Baseball teammates, but to other Baruch student-athletes as well. He was also a member of the Baruch SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) participating in community relations and promotion of athletic department events. Steven was very well-liked, always had a positive attitude and a smile. He will be sorely missed by the Bearcats family as well as many others. Heather Mac Culloch, Baruch College Director of Athletics & Recreation "On behalf of myself, the entire athletic department staff and the larger Bearcats family, our condolences go out to the Patterson family during this very difficult time. Steven was a remarkable student athlete whose passion, dedication, and spirit touched our lives deeply. His commitment to both academics and sports inspired us all. May his legacy live on, and may he find eternal peace on the fields of our memories." A visitation for Steven will be held on Monday, January 29, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place, New York. Visitation will resume Tuesday, January 30, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Home. A Prayer Service and Rosary Service will be conducted by the Ancient Order Hibernians. A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, January 31, at 12:30pm at St. Louis de Montfort, 75 New York Avenue, Sound Beach, New York. Interment will follow at Seaview Cemetery, 233 N. Country Road, Mt. Sinai, New York.
