2023 CUNYAC Women’s Volleyball All-Star Awards and Teams Announced

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2023) – As we await the upcoming 2023 Women’s Volleyball Championship match on Friday, Nov. 10, at Hunter College, the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) is excited to announce the league’s all-star awards and teams for the 2023 season, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches.

John Jay claimed two of the three major awards, as Josanne Lewis was voted Player of the Year and Hailey Waugaman was selected as Rookie of the Year. Hunter’s Erin Dugan was voted Libero of the Year, while Hawks head coach Andrew Woolward was named Coach of the Year.

Player of the Year: Josanne Lewis, So., John Jay
One season after being named CUNYAC Community College Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year at BMCC, Lewis earned the same citation at the senior college level. A CUNYAC Player of the Week honoree, the outside hitter leads the conference in points per set (4.47) and kills per set (4.05). She has 16 double-digit kill performances, highlighted by a 26-kill effort at Baruch.

Rookie of the Year: Hailey Waugaman, Fr., John Jay
Waugaman has produced a strong rookie campaign. A CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honoree, the rookie leads the conference in hitting percentage (.260) this season, hitting over .400 in seven matches, including three outings over .500.

Libero of the Year: Erin Dugan, Sr., Hunter
Dugan leads the CUNYAC this season in digs (334) and digs per set (3.55). She has 19 outings with 10 or more digs, including five matches with 20 or more.

Coach of the Year: Andrew Woolward
Woolward earns Coach of the Year accolades for a second consecutive season. Under his guidance, Woolward has led Hunter to an undefeated conference (7-0) for a second straight campaign, securing the regular season championship. The Hawks lead the CUNYAC this season in assists (1,123), digs (1,639), kills (1,199) and blocks (134.5).
