Four Baruch Bearcats Named First-Ever New York Yankee Ball Girls

Four Baruch softball student-athletes were selected to be the first-ever ball girls for Major League Baseball games at Yankee Stadium.

The selected candidates Julia Cuttone, Carly Quint, Megan Bell, and Amber Rivera are among 16 total females who secured this opportunity for the New York Yankees.

The four Bearcats participated in tryouts in the Spring and began working home games in late May.

Julia Cuttone is a two-sport athlete (softball, cross country) and President of the Baruch Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She was honored at the Athletic Awards Banquet with the 2021-22 SAAC Leadership Award. She pitches and plays the utility for the softball team.

"Being selected as the first ball girl in history is a huge honor. Growing up I always wanted to be the person to make a change and be the difference and I am proud today to say that the Yankees have allowed us to do that," said Cuttone. "If it weren't for softball, learning the knowledge and skills of the game, and my dad for always having the baseball games on every night and encouraging me to sit beside him to watch, I wouldn't be where I am today. I am truly living a dream."

Carly Quint was voted the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Most Valuable Player for the 2022 season and also Baruch's Softball MVP. She finished her rookie season second in NCAA Division III in RBI (65) batting .496 with six homers, six triples, 14 doubles, and 41 runs scored in 39 games as an infielder and pitcher.

Megan Bell also had a terrific rookie seasonĀ batting .443 with 46 runs scored, 18 RBI, and nine doubles. She was a headache for catchers all season with 20 steals in 23 attempts. Bell played mostly second base and had at least one hit in 31 of 39 games.

Amber Rivera played in 36 games (30 starts) helping lead the Bearcats to a runner up finish at the ECAC Division III Softball Championship. She scored 10 total runs and had seven RBI in her first season in Bearcat blue.

"To me, being a ballgirl is a dream come true. I am a diehard Yankees fan and as a kid I would watch Yankees games religiously with my dad," said Rivera. "I would always wonder how it would feel to be on the field around the best players in the world. By being a ballgirl, I am living my childhood dream. It's an honor to step on that field and be a part of the best organization in the world."
