CUNYAC Announces 2022 Men’s Cross Country All-Stars

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 10, 2022) – The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) have announced its all-star selections for the 2022 men’s cross country season.
 
CCNY’s Adam Tarsia was voted the league’s Runner of the Year. Hunter’s Mateo Penafiel was selected Rookie of the Year, while Hawks head coach Marvin Hawkins was tabbed Coach of the Year.
 
Runner of the Year: Adam Tarsia, So., CCNY
Tarsia had a strong sophomore campaign for the Beavers. A two-time CUNYAC Runner of the Week honoree, Adam was the squad’s top finisher in each meet CCNY attended, highlighted by a personal-best time of 27:18 at the NJIT Highlander Challenge.
 
At the CUNYAC Cross Country Championship, he was the individual champion with a time of 29:00, earning Most Valuable Performer recognition while leading CCNY to a second-place team finish. Adam followed up his strong performance among conference performers with a second-place effort regionally at the ECAC Cross Country Championship, crossing the finish line in 28:54.
 
Rookie of the Year: Mateo Penafiel, Fr., Hunter
Penafiel turned in a spectacular rookie campaign for the Hawks. A three-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, Mateo was instrumental to Hunter’s run to a second straight conference title, finishing second overall with a time of 29:11.
 
The following weekend at the ECAC Championship, the Hunter first-year produced a top-10 finish.
 
Coach of the Year: Marvin Hawkins, Hunter
In his first season as head coach, Hawkins led the Hawks to a second consecutive CUNYAC championship.
