FLUSHING, N.Y. – Brooklyn College has been chosen as the league’s top team on the 2021-22 CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll, voted upon by the league’s head coaches. In addition, Brooklyn standout
Chanel Jemmott was selected as the league’s Preseason Player of the Year for a second consecutive season.
The 2020 CUNYAC Player of the Year, Jemmott averaged 15.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in 2019-20, earning WBCA All-America Honorable Mention honors for a second straight year, while landing a spot on the D3Hoops.com All-Atlantic Second Team. She was also selected as an All-ECAC Honorable Mention.

Preseason Player of the Year: Chanel Jemmott, Brooklyn
Brooklyn (21-7, 16-0 CUNYAC in 2019-20), the defending conference champions, received 63 points on the ballot while receiving seven first-place votes. Brooklyn earned its second conference title in three seasons and received the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship.
John Jay (14-13, 10-4 CUNYAC in 2019-20) finished second in the preseason poll. The Bloodhounds reached the semifinals last season, and return CUNYAC First Team All-Star,
Katie Healy. The two-sport student-athlete averaged 17.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game for John Jay in 2019-20.
Hunter (16-12, 11-3 CUNYAC in 2019-20), finished in a close third in the poll after reaching the conference championship game for a third consecutive campaign. The Hawks return forward
Kristina Krslovic in 2021-22, who lead the team in assists (98) a season ago.
Baruch (14-11, 8-6 CUNYAC in 2019-20) was picked fourth in the poll and return CUNYAC Second Team All-Star,
Melinda Spahiu. The senior averaged 11.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per outing and was the team leader in assists (89) and steals (66).
Lehman (1-24, 1-13 CUNYAC in 2019-20) was picked fifth in the preseason poll with 30 points, while York (11-15, 7-7 in CUNYAC) was picked sixth with 29 points. The Cardinals return CUNYAC Second Team All-Star
Mac-Dege Dessources, the program’s first all-conference performer since the 2017-18 campaign.
Rounding out the eight-team poll are CCNY (3-23, 3-11 CUNYAC in 2019-20) and Medgar Evers (6-18, 2-12 CUNYAC in 2019-20).
The 2021-22 CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Championships begin on Feb. 19, with First Round action at higher seeds. The semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 22 at higher seeds, followed by the championship game on Feb. 25 at CCNY.
