FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 11, 2021) – On Thursday, the City University of New York Athletic Conference and University Student Senate announced their 2021 CUNYAC All-Star Team and major award winners for the women's cross country season.
Hunter's
Annabel Gregg was voted CUNYAC Performer of the Year, while York's
Taylor Bellmon was selected as the league's Rookie of the Year and Hunter's
Walter Rodriguez was recognized as CUNYAC Coach of the Year.
Performer of the Year: Annabel Gregg, So., Hunter
Gregg won the 6k at the CUNYAC Championships with a time of 25:48, 1:12 faster than the second-place runner. For her performance, Gregg was named the championship's Most Valuable Performer, leading Hunter to its seventh consecutive conference title.
A CUNYAC Runner of the Week honoree, Gregg's best run came at the Purchase Invitational (Sept. 11), where she finished second overall with a time of 21:40, a personal-best.
Rookie of the Year: Taylor Bellmon, Fr., York
In her first season with the Cardinals, Bellmon finished seventh overall in the 6k at the conference championships, crossing the finish line in 31:07, her best performance of the season.
Coach of the Year: Walter Rodriguez, Hunter
In his first season as Head Coach, Rodriguez earns Coach of the Year recognition after guiding the Hawks to their seventh consecutive conference championship. Hunter outran the second-place runners by 17 points at this year's championships.
Under Rodriguez's tutelage, Hunter won both men's and women's races, the first time both teams have won the championship in the same season since 2011.
