2021 CUNYAC/HealthFirst Men’s Soccer All-Stars Revealed

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The City University of New York Athletic Conference and our newest sponsor HealthFirst have announced All-Star men's soccer honors for the 2021 season, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

After finishing the regular season 6-1 against CUNYAC competition, it was no coincidence that Lehman walked away with two of the three major awards. Senior Mubarak Ouro was voted CUNYAC Player of the Year, while Lightning Head Coach Toma Gojcevic was tabbed CUNYAC Coach of the Year. In addition, John Jay freshman forward Kevin Luciano was selected the conference's Rookie of the Year.

Player of the Year – Mubarak Ouro, Sr., F, Lehman
Ouro was sensational in 2021, leading the conference in points (28) and goals (12). The senior scored 11 of his goals against league opposition, highlighted by three multi-goal performances. A two-time CUNYAC Player of the Week, Ouro's best outing this season came on the road against York, producing four goals and two assists in the victory.

"I want to recognize all my teammates," said Ouro. "This is a team game and without them I'm not sure we would be in the position we are in. The coaches and support staff go above and beyond to take care of all the athletes at Lehman. I want to thank all the coaches in the CUNYAC who voted for me. I hope we can keep it going and keep playing deep into November."

Rookie of the Year – Kevin Luciano, Fr., F, John Jay
Luciano made an immediate impact in his first season in a Bloodhounds uniform. The rookie started all 13 games in the regular season, leading the team in assists (5) while ranking second in points (7). A CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honoree, Luciano handed out a pair of assists in a non-conference win over Pratt.

Coach of the Year – Toma Gojcevic, Lehman
Coach Gojcevic earns Coach of the Year recognition for a second straight season of competition and the third time in his career after leading Lehman to a 9-3-1 overall record and a 6-1 mark against conference foes. His guidance has led Lehman to its fifth CUNYAC Regular Season Championship in the last six seasons.

"First and foremost, I would like to thank my players and coaching staff," said Coach Gojcevic. "We all have made sacrifices throughout this pandemic.  I would also like to thank all the staff at Lehman College in particular Georgia Efthalitsides, Jennifer Winkler, Durval Morgan and Eric Harrison for all their help and support throughout the year. I would also like to thank Lenn Margolis and his staff in sports information for all their help."
