FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2017) - Last month, City University of New York Athletic Conference Executive Director
Zak Ivkovic announced the hiring of
Ian Schraier as the league's
External Communications and Multimedia Manager.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Ian to the CUNY Athletics staff," said Ivkovic. "He has an amazing array of talents that are so fitting in what is needed to serve our vast population of students within the City University system. We are looking forward to utilizing his expertise in order to continue to serve our students at a very high level and give them an unprecedented collegiate athletic experience."
Ivkovic then added: "We want to send out a heartfelt thank you to
Michael Tully for his service and wish him the best of luck in his graduate studies."
Schraier, who assumes his first role in a conference office setting, joins the CUNYAC after nearly a decade's worth of experience at the Division II level.
Most recently, Schraier served as the Athletic Media Relations Director at his alma mater, LIU Post.
In his four years with the Pioneers, Schraier served as the primary media liaison for several nationally-televised games, including the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Football Championship and East Coast Conference Men's and Women's Lacrosse Championships on ESPN3.
He also assisted in the creation of promotional signage at athletic facilities and department-wide branding guidelines, while leading publicity efforts for the school's 25 NCAA Division II varsity programs.
Additionally, LIU Post had great success on and off the field in Schraier's time in Brookville. The Pioneers won four-consecutive East Coast Conference Commissioner's Cups and twice led the East Region in the final NACDA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.
"I am eager to be a part of the CUNY Athletic Conference and their rich tradition of success," Schraier stated. "I want to thank Zak Ivkovic, Kim Santoiemma, Michael Sporton and the entire search committee for offering me this opportunity and look forward to serving the great institutions within the CUNYAC."
Prior to his time at LIU Post, Schraier spent five years as the Athletic Communications Director at Molloy College. In that capacity, he oversaw the promotion and publicity for the school's 16 varsity programs and initiated the use of live statistics and video broadcasts on game days.
Furthermore, Schraier was responsible for the re-launching of the school's athletic website, MolloyLions.com, and helped in the release of the first-ever full athletic newsletter, Lions Land.
Schraier, who is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), has stood on numerous committees. He has held leadership positions on the CoSIDA Workshop Program Committee and D2SIDA Executive Board, and coordinated voting for the D2ADA Men's Soccer All-East Region and USILA Division II All-America teams.
Aside from his experience in collegiate athletics, Schraier serves as a statistician for Verizon FiOS1 Sports and the Brooklyn Nets' G-League affiliate, the Long Island Nets. He also works as a staff writer for New York Sports Day, where he has covered the New York Mets, New York Rangers, New York Islanders and local college basketball games, including the 2017 ACC Tournament at Barclays Center.
Schraier, a 2007 graduate of LIU Post with a bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, resides in Massapequa Park, N.Y. with his wife, Christine.
