CUNY2CUBA: Introducing Ashley Suarez

Bronx Community College has selected freshman Ashley Suarez to represent the Broncos on the CUNYAC Goodwill Tour to Cuba this Spring.  The New York native plays for the  Bronx Broncos Women’s Volleyball team. This season, Suarez started in all 21 matches. The outside hitter averaged 2.06 kills per set, and 2.57 digs per set for the 2015 season. She is pursuing a career in Clinical Psychology and has a 3.372 cumulative grade point average.

The rookie shares her excitement with CUNYAC: "The fact that a group of 16 ordinary students are going to be traveling together to a country that has been rarely visited by Americans in the last 50 years is a great opportunity. The fact that I’m inside that group makes it unbelievably exciting. "

Head Bronx CC Volleyball Coach Ingrid Carmona states, "Ashley is a good student and a great athlete who uses her leadership to help everyone in the team. She's a good teammate and has used her experience to help our program to grow!"

Suarez gushes,“I came across the CUNYAC Goodwill Tour invitation email when I was cleaning out my inbox. Once the word ‘congratulations’ caught my eye I found myself reading the whole letter. I must have read it a thousand times to myself and to my family. As I read on, I found myself raising my eyes and opening my mouth, full of excitement, I just couldn’t believe it! This is a great opportunity and I can't thank CUNYAC  and my athletic director enough for choosing me to be a part of this.”

The Goodwill Tour will begin when students and staff depart on April 22nd.
