CUNYAC Releases 2014-15 Year in Review

Dear CUNY Friends, Family, Sponsors, and Students:

I am elated to share the 2014-15 City University of New York Athletic Conference Year in Review with you. In this booklet, you will find the events and moments that have made the last year one of the greatest in CUNYAC history.

The year was definitely one to remember with three ESPN3 broadcasts including the first-ever broadcast of the Men's Volleyball Championship and the 50th edition of the men's basketball championship, Hostos' amazing Final Four run, and being the home of five nationally ranked programs at various times throughout the year. We have helped champion the removal of a discriminatory NJCAA rule, increased the number of opportunities for students with disabilities, and have dramatically improved our connection to the general student population through the CUNYAC/MCU Intramural Championship Series and the StudentsFirst Rewards Program.

Individual athletic accomplishments were in tow throughout the year with 735 scholar-athletes that attained a 3.20 GPA or above. Athletically, 24 All-Americans that earned 46 honors, an abundance of Honorable Mention All-American accolades, and dozens of regional honors. Among the accolades thus far are three individual National Champions in Hunter's wrestler CJ Palmer and Lehman's track teammates Allie Bernasconi and Adriana Wright.

Not only was the year filled with those marquee moments but the competition throughout the conference was some of the best we have ever seen. The Commissioner's Cup race at the four-year college level was the closest in history. The Baruch Bearcats, won the contest the day before the end of championship season as they clinched a berth in the baseball championship game. The 1.5 point margin over the second place CSI and 9.5 points over the third place Hunter were both the closest ever and three schools eclipsed 100 points for only the second time in history. On the community college side, it was a wire-to-wire victory for Queensborough that was most significantly helped by a strong Fall season.

All of this was accomplished while our student-athletes had excellent experiences that will stay with them for decades to come.

The support from our sponsors and donors was overwhelming this year with a record fundraising year of over $350,000. We will always aim higher but for now, take some time to relish in the greatness that was the 2014-15 year.

All the Best,

Zak Ivkovic
