Queensborough Community College set a new benchmark for both most points (82) and margin of victory (59 points) in claiming the 2011-12 CUNY Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday night, as the top overall Community College athletic program. The Tigers received the trophy at the 26th Annual Michael Steuerman Awards Dinner at Queens College.

The Tigers swept the Regular Season and Tournament Championships in three of the five official championships, Baseball, Men’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball for 60 points, while claiming the Regular Season title in Women’s Basketball and 12 additional points for being the best team in Men’s & Women’s Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field.

By virtue of their participation in track and field, Kingsborough Community College (23 points) finished in second place over a three-way tie for third place between the rest of the field: Bronx, Hostos and Borough of Manhattan Community Colleges with 20 points.

Kingsborough earned 15 points in Women’s Basketball (10 for winning the CUNYAC/Con Edison title), while Bronx scored all of their points in Men’s Basketball, as they swept CUNYAC and Region XV and went to the NJCAA Final Four.
