CUNYAC/Con Edison Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week

LAUREN HAYDEN, Baruch

Middle Blocker/Junior/Parker, Co/Chaparral

A junior from Parker, Colorado, Baruch’s Lauren Hayden has been a key component to the Bearcats’ success over the last three season. Last week Hayden helped lead Baruch to a 3-2 mark, as the squad clinched second place in the final CUNYAC standings for the second straight year with a sweep over fourth place Brooklyn.

She started with six kills against the Bulldogs, then notched 10 kills and three digs in four set win over Union College, tallied 14 kills and three blocks versus SUNY-New Paltz and finished the week with 11 kills and three kills in a win over SUNY-Plattsburgh. For the week she totaled 48 kills and 12 blocks with .321 hitting percentage.

This marks her second CUNY Athletic Conference / Con Edison honor this season, as the 2011 Championship tournament is set to begin with quarterfinals at home sites on Tuesday (Baruch hosts #7 York at 7:00 pm), before the scene shift to CCNY on Thursday for the semifinals and championship match.

CUNYAC/Con Edison Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week

JESSICA WU, Baruch

Baruch standout Jessica Wu earns her fifth consecutive CUNY Athletic Conference / Con Edison Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week honor as the 2011 Regular Season comes to a close and everyone turns their attention to the Championships on Tuesday and Thursday, November 1st and 3rd.

Her highlights include notching 12 kills in a win over Union. She then tallied a week-high 15 kills and picked up seven digs versus New Paltz and closed the week with 12 kills and eight digs in a win versus Plattsburgh. For the week, the freshman from Southern California totaled 52 kills,12 service aces and 21 digs.
