The Borough of Manhattan Community College defeated Kingsborough CC in five sets to advance to the 2009 CUNY Athletic Conference Community College Women's Volleyball Championship.
The Panthers won the first match 25-11, but dropped the second match 25-21 to the Wave. After falling behind 10-3 in the third set, the BMCC rallied back to defeat Kingsborough 25-22. The Wave never trailed in the fourth set, after racing out to a 7-1 lead and an eventual 25-17 victory to force the fifth and deciding set. The Wave took an early 5-1 in the fifth match, but the Panthers battled back and ran off six straight points to regain the lead 7-6. The Panthers banged six kills down the final stretch to earn their third straight championship berth.
Aleksandra Varpakhovich and Colette Dragon led BMCC with 12 kills each, as Betsy Abril tallied 28 assists. Dragon led the defensive effort with 21 digs.
Zenia George led Kingsborough with 16 kilss, and four service aces.
