Three-time Player of the Week, Marcel Esonwune helped the lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 week, which extended York’s winning streak to ten games. On Monday, in a 75-55 win over John Jay, he netted 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. In addition, he recorded his 1,000th career point on his final basket of the game, becoming just the seventh player in York College history to do so.
On Wednesday, Esonwune had his best game of the week, scoring 22 points, grabbing 20 rebounds and blocking three shots as York edged Hunter College, 68-65. He then closed out the week with another double-double, scoring 26 points and grabbing 12 boards in a 90-58 rout of Berkeley College.
On the season, Esonwune is averaging 17.4 points, 14.9 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game. He leads the nation in rebounds per game and is second in the country in blocks per game.
York (14-5) will visit CCNY on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
