For the second time this season, Ashley Straughn, a junior at the City College of New York, is this week’s CUNY Athletic Conference Player of the Week. On the week, she shot .632 in two games in which the Beavers split against conference foes Brooklyn College and Lehman College. A Freeport alum, Straughn scored 19 points, shooting 6-10 from the field, while going 7-8 from the charity stripe and grabbing seven rebounds in the 57-55 win over the Bulldogs. The 6’1” center continued her dominance on the court in the Beavers’ next game, despite an 82-77 loss to the Lightning. She scored 21 points, shooting .667 from the field and .692 from the line while grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking two shots. She averages 15.6 points per game, good for fifth in the conference. Meanwhile, her 10.3 rebounds per game are sixth on the CUNYAC leaderboard.
