York’s women’s basketball squad has flirted with .500 all season, and now sits at 6-7, after going 2-1 against conference opponents last week. Kadisha Wickham was instrumental in the Cardinals’ play, and earns Player of the Week honors. Wickham averaged 23.3 points and 20.7 rebounds per game as York (6-7; 1-2 CUNYAC South) beat John Jay 62-47 and Medgar Evers 66-51, before falling to Staten Island 76-73.
In a non-conference tilt against John Jay, played at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., Wickham had arguably the best game of her young career, narrowly missing a triple-double. She recorded 22 points, grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds and added eight steals. Her 20 rebounds set a new career high, besting her old mark of 12.
Upon returning to New York, the Cardinals continued their road trip with a win at Medgar Evers College. There, Wickham posted 19 points with 18 rebounds and seven steals.
Finally, in the tight affair against CSI, Wickham had her best performance of the week, scoring a game-high 29 points, with a new career-high 24 rebounds, besting her new record from earlier in the week. She added five steals and six blocked shots.
On the season, Wickham is third in the CUNYAC in scoring with 16.8 points per game, third in rebounding (11.4 rpg), second in steals (3.9 spg), and fifth in blocked shots (1.3 bpg).
After a four-game roadtrip, York hosts Baruch tonight and City Tech on Wednesday.
